Defacto Wireless Distribution LLC, supplier of wireless networking equipment, “Unwired” the ABC’s hit “reality” series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
In December 2005, The ABC hit “reality” series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition began filming in rural Washington County near Brenham, Texas. Defacto Wireless Distribution in conjunction with Texas Broadband Internet, designed, installed and delivered a high speed wireless network to the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition job site.
The rural job site is not service by conventional high-speed internet services such as DSL or Cable, but is covered by Texas Broadband Internet, one of Central Texas largest Wireless ISPs.
Defacto Wireless Distribution installed an AirMatrix Home CPE (customer premise equipment) and an AirMatrix Mesh radio at the job site. This network was then linked to a Texas Broadband tower approximately 10 miles away. The AirMatrix Home CPE was used to connect to Texas Broadband’s network while the AirMatrix Mesh node served as the Access Point for the job site. Defacto Wireless Distribution also supplied a Packet8 Voice over IP Phone.
The AirMatrix Mesh network provided approximately 18 acres of laptop coverage, with speeds up to 1.5 Mbps. Throughout the filming of the series, the mesh network passed over 1.5 gb of traffic to include VoIP (Voice over Internet), Fax data, Internet and Print Server traffic.
AirMatrix Mesh radios supplied by Defacto Wireless Distribution are also currently being used to deliver free public WiFi in the Brenham downtown area. Both Defacto Wireless Distribution LLC and Texas Broadband are based in Brenham, Texas.
